JOB PURPOSE
Aiglon College is an international boarding school based in the Swiss Alps with a worldwide reputation for providing a challenging and transformational holistic education in an inspiring setting within a safe, caring and supportive framework. The School is CIS accredited, and caters for 480 students aged 7-18 representing 70 nations. Our distinct learning philosophy begins in the Junior School, through to the Senior School where students prepare for Cambridge IGCSEs and the IB Diploma Programme.
The School wishes to appoint, from August 2026, a Learning Support Assistant to work closely on a one-to-one basis with a senior school student who has a neurodiverse learning profile. This role will focus on supporting the student’s access to the curriculum, organisation, independence, and social-emotional wellbeing within the senior school environment.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, the Learning Support team, pastoral staff, and parents to ensure the student can fully participate in the academic and community life of the school. Experience working with neurodiverse learners (for example Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, executive functioning differences, or specific learning needs) would be a distinct advantage.
It is expected that this post will involve supporting approximately 25-35 hours per week. This is a term-time only position.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individualised support within a classroom setting and on a one-to-one basis to enable the student to access the curriculum and engage fully in learning activities.
- Establish a positive, respectful and supportive working relationship with the student, promoting confidence, independence and self-advocacy.
- Support the student in developing effective organisation, planning and executive functioning skills, including time management, task initiation, and prioritisation.
- Assist the student in understanding instructions, breaking down tasks, and maintaining focus during lessons where appropriate.
- Promote the student’s social and emotional development, helping them to develop appropriate strategies for managing stress, workload and interpersonal situations.
- Assist the student in developing effective study habits and learning strategies suited to their learning profile.
- Support the student with transitions between lessons, activities or learning environments where needed.
- Encourage increasing independence over time while providing appropriate scaffolding and guidance.
- Support the student’s wellbeing and help them access appropriate support structures within the school when required.
Support for Teachers and the Learning Support Team
- Work collaboratively with teachers and the Learning Support department to implement agreed strategies and accommodations within lessons.
- Observe and report on the student’s engagement, progress and learning needs.
- Provide feedback to relevant staff regarding the effectiveness of strategies and interventions.
- Assist teachers in adapting materials or approaches where appropriate to support the student’s access to learning.
- Support the monitoring of the student’s academic progress and wellbeing.
- Contribute to meetings relating to the student’s support plan where appropriate.
- Help ensure that learning environments remain supportive, inclusive and structured for the student.
Support for the School
- Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with teachers, pastoral staff, learning support specialists and other relevant professionals.
- Liaise with parents and boarding staff where appropriate and under the guidance of the Learning Support team.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality while supporting effective communication between relevant stakeholders.
- Review and develop personal professional practice and knowledge relating to neurodiversity and inclusive education.
Support for the Curriculum
- Support the use of information and communication technology in the classroom.
- Have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people s/he is responsible for or comes into contact with.
- To ensure tasks are carried out with due regard to Health and Safety.
- To participate in appropriate professional development including adhering to the principle of appraisal/performance management.
- To adhere to the ethos of Aiglon and promote the agreed vision and aims of the school while setting an example of personal integrity and professionalism.
- Attendance at appropriate staff meetings, parents/open evenings.
OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding children and young people.
- Undertake any other task which may be reasonably requested by the Head of Learning Support to assist in the smooth running of the team.
- Understand the School’s Guiding Principles and uphold the ethos of the School at all times.
