Founded on 14th April 1900 in Paris, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the world governing body for cycling. Its mission is to develop and supervise cycling in all its forms and for everybody, as a competitive sport, as a healthy recreational activity and as a means of transport and having fun. Additionally, the UCI promotes a number of its own events, including the UCI Road World Championships, an iconic annual event, and a wide range of other UCI World Championships and World Cups across the various disciplines. It is based in Aigle, Switzerland, at the UCI World Cycling Centre.

To join its Sports Department, the UCI is seeking an:

Innovation Assistant (100%) English - French

Mission

The UCI Innovation Unit is responsible for technical regulations across all UCI sanctioned cycling disciplines. Additionally, the unit is responsible for the coordination of new technologies related to equipment and data in cycling.

Main responsibilities and tasks

Innovation Unit Operations :

  • UCI Equipment Commission: assist the Innovation Manager with the preparation of meetings, the agenda and drafting of the minutes.
  • Assisting in the development of new tools to facilitate technical communication between the unit and stakeholders

Communication with stakeholders :

  • Coordinate communication with different stakeholders, in particular manufacturers and suppliers, National Federations, Commissaires, organisers, UCI Teams and riders
  • Address training seminars for Commissaires on questions related to technical aspects to ensure that the enforcement of the UCI technical regulations is consistent
  • Being a point of contact with the Technical Commissaires group
  • Assess the Technical Commissaires reports and expenses

UCI Equipment Approval Procedures and Rule Application Processes :

  • Work with the Innovation Team on development and implementation of new procedures
  • Creating clear documentation and instructional materials

UCI Frameset Approval Procedure :

  • Receive and register submission forms
  • Maintain regular contact with manufacturers
  • Managing secure data exchange accounts between manufacturers and the UCI
  • Assist with three-dimensional inspections of prototypes
  • Create an approval certificate
  • Create “UCI approved” frameset labels
  • Publish and update the list of approved framesets on the UCI website

UCI Wheelset Approval Procedure :

  • Assist with analysing of the design conformity and verification of documentation submitted
  • Publish and update the list of wheels that are in compliance on the UCI website

Travel to competitions, when appointed :

  • Ensure the technical regulations are respected at UCI Events
  • Organise inspections of equipment in collaboration with the Commissaires and undertake some specific inspections at competitions

Miscellaneous :

  • Update and distribute documentation concerning equipment (Clarification Guide of the UCI Technical Regulation, Approval Protocols)
  • UCI verification equipment coordination

Profile

  • Preferred higher-education degree or equivalent
  • Preferred knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and familiarity with 2D/3D technical drawing verification.
  • A very good understanding of the sport of Cycling
  • Excellent command of English written and spoken, good command of French written and spoken
  • Knowledge of UCI Regulations
  • Rigour, precision and sense of organisation
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Open to working on weekends when needed.
